kind of a stupid question, but are the glow plugs good? when my plugs went out, they all went out at about the same time. how bout the relay, is it getting power? if its not then check your fuseable links. how bout your fuse on the firewall? i know you probably already checked all this ***, but its worth a shot.

if your relay has power coming out of it, the only thing it could be is that big fuse on the firewall, a fuseable link, or possibly (but not probable) your ground may have came off the engine. does it crank over very fast?

no it turns over as normal, i am having to use a manual switch to fire up the plugs, there is no link in the fusable link both end are joined together is ther a fuse in the fuse box to check

MK2 chassis generally has the glow plug fuse in a small black plastic box bolted to the firewall next to the vacuum booster in the engine compartment. A big thick red wire runs in and out.
If you've got a 1.9 in a MK2 then you've got an engine swap, however, so the wiring could all be non-stock I suppose.
