diesel are known to have a long long life...if your turning up the power you really need a good gauge...$100 gauge can save your $500 turbo or add lots of extra life to the turbo....I'm all for saving cash and doing a budget build..but sometimes you need to spend the money!!

Right now, for my egt gauge, I'm using a $45 ebay 12v digital temp controller, with aircraft spruce thermocouple. Works great.

Cheap is a relative term in aircraft... if you build from plans, you can make each part one by one. You should still use aircraft quality materials if the part is structural, but for non-structural why use a $63.60 2"x4" spruce when a $1.77 stud from Home Depot will work just as good?
The gauges are the same thing.. an $80 EGT setup is cheaper than the $66,745.00 Garmin G900X system we would love to display our EGT next to the Highway in the Sky GPS :-D

yeah prothe's gauge starting at 600 and going to 24,000 is pretty stupid now that i've driven a bit. but it does what i want it to do. so im happy. That's a neat idea with mixing and matching the sender with other types of displays. I like that.
