Hi guys.
i'm a keen dubber, just swapped my b3 2.0 petrol for a mk2 golf GTD, and i'v got a few quick questions i need answering...
I need to know the max oil pressure for my GTD lump as i'm installing an aftermarket oil cooler, and dont want one that wont take the pressure, figures in PSI or Bar please! this will also help me order the right hose.
also how much oil will an empty GTD take? as i'm pulling apart the oil system i need to know how much to go out and get, and what weight oil do you reccomend for a 200k - miler GTD?
i also fancy moving the intercooler from under the bonnet in its standard place, to in front of the grille as it looks like it gets sod-all airflow where it is, tips on doing this, any cars i should look for to pull a slightly bigger I/C out of or am i better off keeping the standard one if i only plan on playing with the boost an fuel a little bit...
if anyone knows a cheaper place to get the standalone water pump, as mine doesn't seem to be working, and i was quoted £85 by a local motor spares place...
thanks guys!
Al.

When it cold out its common to see 100 psi. Look in the junk yards for Volvo 740 or 760 Turbo for the oil cooler and thermostatically controlled sandwich plate.
If it were me, I would hold off on the oil cooler and buy a water pump and thermostat.
Just my 2 cents.

in my mk3 aaz, i just have the water/oil warmer/cooler in between the oil filter and oil filter braket on the block.... living in australia, during hte summer, i only ever see over 90degC water temp sitting in traffic - the rest of the time the water temp stays only around 75C.
oil pressure guage readings suggest that my oil temp rarely fluctuates - once the water temp is normal, oil pressure never varies more than 3-6psi at cruise rpms, and idle (800rpm) pressure never goes under 15psi. (15W-40 semi synth) - provided your cooling system is tip-top, you probably wont need a dedicated oil cooler.
FYI - i als orun 20psi, no intercooler (at the moment) and turned up fuelling.

Being a UK GTD it should be a SB or RA engine and already has the oil/water oil cooler between the oil filter and engine.
The additional water pump is £82.79 from VW, but might be cheaper if you have a TPS near you
http://www.thetradepartsspecialists.co.uk/ (TPS is VW/Audi trade parts division)
But the Golf/Vento/Corrado, ect VR6 engines use the exact same pump.
As for oil I run my GTD's on Quantum Synta Silver and use a genuine filter from either VW or TPS
A VW Transporter/Merc Sprinter intercooler fits well infront of the radiator though you might need to drop down to a 1.6 petrol radiator.

yeah, it lunched itself and the pipes have been removed, giving the underside a nice oil slick after some on-boost lovin' i want a external mocal mainly for asthetics, but didnt want something utterly useless!

i have a TPS and i'v used them for odd bolts before... cheers for the heads up!
i'm going to replace both water pumps, the thermostat, header tank, rad and some of the coolin pipes. going to flush the rest of the system thru, thanks for the info on the 1.6 rad.

how much quantum does it take 4l/5l?
cool. might just move the standard one outside the bay if i cant find anything else...
thanks for the help guys, i'll stick pics up when i pull the front end apart!

To fill the oil filter and the sump to the full mark on mine, one imperial gallon is just right. 4.546 litres or some such. Don't use a petrol engined filter to save a couple of quid. The only seized GTD engine I ever found in a scrapyard, 100,000 miles, full of coolant (ie. uncooked), had a petrol oil filter. I wonder if there is a connection?

Hi all. I have a sprinter intercooler in mine ans kept original rad, along with cut aneroid fuel pin. Personally i wouldn't bother with aftermarket waterpump but you'll need EGT gauge if you're tuning the engine to the limit.

not an aftermarket one, just replacing the current one (next to coolant top hose in GTD's sig) with a new one that isnt full of oil...
i am suprised, it goes linke stink for a car that needs quite an overhaul! i just want more black smog!

Are you driving this engine like this ? It appears your intake is gettiing raw air from under the hood.

uh oh........I'm using a eurovan oil filter now, it's longer and has the same diameter. I'm gonna change the oil in about 100 miles and I'll get the right filter. Thanks

Hi mate!
The T4 uses the same water pump.
The water pump switches via a temp switch - have you eliminated that as a possible problem?
