The oil pan on my rebuilt Quantum engine has me worried. It was very rusty, with some pin holes and a lot of external pitting. I welded the holes up,wire wheel brushed it and powder coated it black. Now rust has blistered through the coating, and it's still on the stand, not yet in the car
My question is, will any gasser 1.6 pan fit this engine? I'm not worried about the drain fitting, as I'll need to change something anyway to match the VNT drain hose. I can weld on an appropriate fitting.
The windage tray/gasket is the same, so are the pans interchangeable?

a gasser oil pan will fit but you will loose one quart of oil capacity! so instead of 5quarts a gasser holds 4quarts! you should stay with a 5quart if you can? but to get you out of a bind you can use the gasser 4quart pan!

I've got an aaz oil pan not sure if you can use it but the bolt holes are the same. Its in great shape and still has the factory paint on it.
I bought a *Brand New* Oil pan from the VW dealership about 2 months ago
(for 1.6 TD)
Nobody had them anywhere,
I did not want to weld a bung on because of the issues you are already having,
It was like $150-175
From my Local VW Dealership in Orlando, FL.
It took 1.5 wks to get (Brought in from Canuck warehouse, of course!)
but I was shocked at the reasonable price!
