Looks like you have a couple options then. Go to something like the ko3 / k14 for faster spool. You know the deal there, more down low, less up top. Go the VNT route with it assorted control systems. Fast response and power through the whole range. Newer ball bearing setup, faster response but costly. Kind of the big catch-22. Perhaps the addition of a water / meth system would help? Different direction, but it may achieve the results you are looking for. Sell the IC setup and go with water / meth into the manifold. Prices might offset each other. Faster spool for sure, your whole loop will be like 6". Just a thought.

I had a K14, don't want the troubles of a VNT. I just need the ball bearing unit, but does anyone make a direct-bolt-on for these manifolds?
I don't know of any other engines that used the trapezoidal flange except I think I saw one on a nissan once. Short of finding one to bolt on, you could choose the one you want and make it fit. Adapter plates aren't hard to make. I've made quite a few with 3/8" steel, a drill press, hole saw and a power jigsaw with metal cutting blades. Just made one yesterday for a VNT 17.

I have the same manifold here (waiting to be used currently.)
The down side, it does not have a port for an external wastegate (I also have a tial 38mm waiting to be used...) I'm going to machine one in, since Cast iron is VERY tough to weld to and not have cracks develop.
Bigger wastegates control low boost better. I'm gonna be pushing 20psi through my merc t3/STI intercooler setup/
You could make a small say 1" spacer to pull outof between the turbo and manifold?
I fear it may cause some lag.
the casting is thick enough to clean a flat area off and machine in the hole pattern and port.
I have to wait to see how everythings going to sit before machining, I dont feel like doing it twice...

i'm gonna argu that point cast iron is very easy to weld! knowing the process is the key!
pre-heat and stick weld with nickel rod ! the reason for nickel rod is it still can be machined! if it don't need any machining then 7018HR4 will do fine!
