Has anyone done grooves in the head / pistion crowns to improve combustion ? I've seen quite a bit about this in the gasser world, but nothing in ours.

we don't have squish bands over our pistons .. the grooves would lower the compression ratio .. cause hard starting ... and burn up the pistons at higher speeds ( less mass to dissipate the heat produced under heavy load )..with higher internal temps ...
1.6 have swirl chambers already .. 1.9 have them built into the pistons
I would think the squash band was directly under the pre-chamber cup. Yes, the 23:1 would drop to maybe 22:1 but an extra pound or 2 of boost would more than make up for that. Cold starts w/ slightly less compression - pull the cold start lever most of us never use.
The guys on the Groove sites have been having great sucess, but none of them are diesel heads.
I have to use my cold start to keep mine idling on more than 2 cylinders once started
This grooving thing sounds like a complete scam to me.
