Can a 1.8T turbo and manifold from a 99 Passat be used on a 1.6TD in a caddy? Looks like a early TDI turbo but it is water and oil cooled.Can get one cheap.

Sorry, the 1.8t exhaust manifolds bolt pattern is not compatable with 8valve motors.
not to mention the A/R is wayyyy off. you will start to get power at about 4k+ rpm... way out of the useable powerband. what you want is a true TDI turbo that will give you good low end torque.

doesn't matter if the turbo is big... gasser turbo's are meant to give full boost in the upper rpm range. diesels give full boost in the low rpm range. just built differently. even though the turbo is pretty small, i doubt it would be even useable, unless your diesel revs to 6 grand.

Not so much with the K03s, still going to be bad, but not AS bad. VWs are designed to make significant amounts of torque at low RPMs, my Audi makes 7psi at 2500rpm (granted, 2.7 w/ 2 K03s) but if you've ever seen dyno sheets, they make max torque from 1500-4500rpm, which requires a very fast spooling turbo.
