Yip my car gave me the middle finger today as I was trying to leave for lunch.
Ever sense that last turbo blew and it ran away on my in Montana It's been struggling to start and the economy has gone down gradually.
Well I go to head to the post office and give it a crank, it usually grabs and takes off after just a couple revolution, not this time. So I cycled the glow plugs a few times and tried again. It would ALMOST start but not.
I eventually ran the batt down to much to spin it over fast enough to do anything so I hooked up a co-workers car with cables and gave her hell for a while longer. Nothing. Ran and bought some starting fluid just to get it home, nothing. So, I have my wife heading up here after work with the car hauler to haul it home.
Guess I'll have to drive the Dakota for a few weeks. That will cost a fortune in gas in comparison.
I have already ordered the Total seal rings and head gasket but the rungs wont ship until the 22nd so I wont see them until the 27th at the earliest.

bummer

for that to happen the compression should be really low, mine starts happily with 300psi (don't know the minimum)

Well it doesn't help my brand new battery is low so it's just not spinning that fast. I had this problem a week ago but I was home and it was Sunday, I just put a charger on it and cam back a couple hrs later and started right up. Even with jumper cables hooked to it today it wont fire.
I'll be sure to take some pics when I tear it down if I fond something spectacular.

Oh ya, I'm going to do a compression test before I tear it down to see what's really up.

Maybe you two can start a club. Which, respectfully, I hope I never join...

X2 on the club

bummer, I was lucky enough to plan a rebuild before it died, had my volks mechanic do the work as I just didn't have the time. cost me 25 hundred  but now it's fast and reliable!
remember some wise man here once said
"you can have fast and cheap but not reliable... or fast and reliable, but not cheap"
best of luck to you dude! my diesel injected heart feels for your loss

The compression on my old rabbit was 350 across the board...This winter in the cold in ohio I had it plugged in and new starter, 1000 CA battery, and 4/5 days ended up with my wife's jeep pulling it to life in the morning. Once it ran though it would start on its own for about 2.5 hours after shut down. More than that it was pulling time.....I am selling the beast and now driving a GTI and rebuilding a 1.6 Turbo completely. SOOOO should I be considered X3 in the club??? Even it not I know how you feel

y'all arn't the only ones with bad luck. My autocross season is pretty much over. My trans is still apart from shearing 2nd gear out at the Atl Pro Solo. quafe diff is still at Autotech for the lifetime guarantee. I found little chunks of metal coming off the diff when the trans was taken apart. :x
Won the local FSP championship using borrowed cars, but can't spent the money to fix the trans fast to make Solo Nationals.
I share your frustration

I would love one Duane but at this moment I've got to stick with what's already bolted in there.
Toss in some rings and a new head gasket and I'm golden (I hope).

Dont tell her man!!!!!!!!!!
But seriously it's my bad it's broken really. I knew I was being hard on that damn turbo..
Hell who knows, maybe I'll get it apart and discover I broke some rings installing them.. Stranger things have happened.
