well im pretty sure my pump is leaking. very slowly but there is still fuel slowly coming off the motor under the pump.
first off, is this a good place for parts? the prices seem very good but i want to be 100% sure ill be getting quality parts
http://www.dieselvw.com/second, i dont have enough to throw giles the $650 or so to get a full performance rebuild, and im also intending to go TD soon. Is there a good place to get the pump just re-sealed? or do i have to get it rebuilt complete? Is it easy enough that a first timer with a pretty decent mechanical background can do?
thanks!!

How soon are you planning on getting a TD? You might be better to just let it leak, or do what I do and fill the pump with ATF. Just run it on straight ATF from the bottle until the bottle is about empty and let it sit for at least 12 hours.

Yes that place if fine to get your parts from and yes if you have some skills you can reseal it yourself I'm sure.
Just go slow and lay everything out like it came apart, makes reassembly much easier.

i can work a trade and get everyting to run the turbo on my NA 1.6. i just did a headgasket but the motor is no where near new, so i dont think it would take to kindly to boost, and i really dont want to get into a project with this car at this point i just need a good running daily.
thanks for the reply's fellas!

what does this do exactly? i ran atf through the filter when i did that, but your saying fill the pump with atf and let it sit...does this always work? the leak is very slow, and it doesnt even show until after a good long drive..

it's 2/2 with me. One was a pretty bad leak from the distributor head too. I figure it gives the ATF more time to expand the seals which seals up the leak. I always run a lubricant with every tank of fuel, either ATF, 2 stroke engine oil or the expensive stuff you buy

Bringin this back up. i ended up getting a pretty decent deal on a known good non-leaking pump. installed it this weekend an got it to run last night. im having some loud clacking as i rev it up an its smoking alot (it was dark but i think it was black smoke).
anyone have a link for setting up the pump timing? talked with a knowledgable buddy an he said it kinda sounds like i may have the pump advanced too far. so that is what im going to try this evening but im looking for any insight as to what the problem may be.
another thing is when i turn the key off, it take a few seconds before the motor shuts off. i also installed new glow plugs an relay.

so i played with the pump timing a bit this evening, just trying to see if it would help. verified the engine timing was spot on and made sure everything else is looking good. Fires up after some effort, an will run. smokes a bit of white, the turns to black if i rev it up a bit.
still making the light knock-ish sound on accel. could the engine run if the cam was 180 off? should i change out the injectors next ?(other recommendation from friend) It was running fine with the exception of the leaky pump, and it only sat for a day while i got some new glow plugs.
