what would you say is the chance of getting this to work?
I figure using some parts from 1.5 and some from 1.6 to make the pump work?
wouldnt the oil squirters still be cooling the piston rings?
which head gasket i wonder? I suppose the head would need drilled to fit 12 mm bolts.?
does this not work or? Imagine you were a newbee and just wanted to know what was avalible as far as options go
The 1.5 and 1.6 blocks have the same bore. The difference is in stroke. The 1.5 has a shorter stroke. I believe the 1.5 also had a half a point higher compression ratio.
Therefore, the 1.5 head has smaller swirl chambers. If you put it on a 1.6 block, you'll have even higher compression. Probably a really bad idea if you want to run more than stock boost.
How about a 1.6 head on a 1.6 block, and a 1.5 head on a 1.5 block.
There's some on-line info at various sites that has bore, stroke and CR for the VW IDI engines. I have one in a word document that I copied off the internets. I'm not smart enough to successfully cut and paste it here.
A long time ago, I worked the bore, stroke, and CR stuff backwards and came up with these BALL PARK numbers for the swirl chamber volume differences. I have all these heads in my garage, and a burette, and sometime I will actually measure them with an injector, heat shield, and glow plug in the hole They are GENERALLY right and good enough my plans, which inclued a frakinmotor this spring. This will yield an extra 1.6 head, and guess where I was thinking of putting that head.
1.5 Swirl chamber volume 11.457 cc
1.6 Swirl chamber volume 12.794 cc
1.9 Swirl chamber volume 16.376 cc
1.6 with 1.9 head CR: 19.357
1.5 with 1.6 head CR: 21.371
