Don't get me wrong some of the really knew VNT designs that are starting to pop out in the last 2 year are pretty decent and you can actually flow some air through the turbine, I think the newer audi diesel 3.0 liter engine has one of these turbos as well as the porsche 997, but the crap found on vw tdi's are just that.
As for parallel twins on an inline engine, I would agree that with a split turbine housing you would be better off running a single, but if you were stuck with a single tang housing, than its going to be close to 6 of 1 and a half dozen of the other. Obviously twins requires a lot more fab and that should be factored into the undertaking.
I just put this out there to see what people thought. I have the same idea that flow is flow. 1 big turbo or 2 small ones does not make much difference. I guess we are all in agreement. I was hoping someone would give a reason for doing it that I did not think of. Guess I was right in thinking this way.
Personally, I'd rather get a few of those IHI micro turbos and have a turbo for each cylinder.

Twins apparently work on an inline or there wouldn't be factory engines with them.(ACERT CATs) Thats not saying they are worth it on a small 4cyl VW. VNTs are great they are just in the early delvelopment.

Those are not twins, they are compound turbos. Compound and series are very different from parallel twins.
No: 1, 4 cyl for 1 turbo, and cyl 2-3 for the second? a lot of fun to find a place for this set-up, but I found that It's a nice and original set-up.
