Hi, Did gov. mod and cleaned parts , when reinstalling throttle shaft noticed I lost my marks to reassemble-how do you do an initial setup for throttle shaft? Thanks,Paul

Trial and error. I'd initially set it turned in a clockwise position that you don't think will give you any throttle and start it, being ready to kill it instantly if it starts revving out of control. If it idles but doesn't rev up, or dies, then slowly move the throttle lever clockwise on the shaft a groove at a time and repeat until tou can rev the engine like normal as soon as you move the throttle. If it seems normal, but the revs hang when you give it throttle, turn the residual fuel screw out until it no longer does it.
If it revs as soon as you start it. kill it and move the throttle lever counterclockwise on the shaft and repeat, like the opposite of the above procedure. That's what I had to do on mine as I never marked the shaft before my mod.

It is really important, when taking the throttle lever off of the splines, to take note of its positioning. If it helps, this was mine prior to taking it of when I rebuilt my pump.

Yeah, sadly there is no known proceedure I've ever seen, other than a huge warning on pump rebuild threads "IMPORTANT: MARK THE THROTTLE SHAFT POSITION BEFORE DISASSEMBLY" !! ;-)
Gonna have to use trial-and-error... although every pump I've rebuilt has a long groove on the top of the throttle shaft that just happens to line up with the longest groove etched into the throttle lever... that's not the case in the picture above.

Hi All, Thanks for replies so far, had it apart adding intercooler,etc. Have reassembled now and have been trying to get it to restart foe several hours now to no avail. Have added electric pump to temporarily push fuel, will start for split second on outside fuel source. Went back and checked pump timing-is set @ 1.0 mm , cranks over @ a very good rate, strong battery. Any suggestions?? Thanks Again,Paul

Hi Again, Got it running, when did gov mod,idle end of spring setup slipped out of slot, took back apart and reinstalled, started soon after. Been playing with throttle shaft position but not a big issue now.

Glad you got it going, just for reference when I take a pump apart I use an engraver, you know one of those vibrating things you can use to etch your name in your tools etc. Anyway, I engrave a line on the throttle lever that lines up with the notch in th shaft so there is no way I'll mess it up.

Ones I strip are generally set in the mid position, I would start there, if they are off from the centre it's only usually one spline either side of central.

Up for an old but VERY USEFUL POST !!

Lost power on the way to work yesterday
Barely got to my yard and shut the 1.6D off.
Throttle shaft lock nut had come loose,
lever was out of spline.
Thanks to this post I was able to experiment a bit and
I got it dead nuts today.
You guys saved me a bunch of hassel, and I
feel a bit smarter now thanks you guys !
