My diesel doesn't have one (I have a feeling they didn't put it on when they were monkeying around with it.)...anyway, it's missing completely....
-
If its mk1 or mk2 - it won't have/need one.
Idunno know about mk3's.
The gassers had one up inside the passenger fenderwell.

mk1 had a goofy shaped unit strapped to the under side of the hood..
mk2s had one in the fenderwell..
but only the gas cars had them AFAIK..

yeah it runs fine without one, but the climate control has need of vacuum and I do want to get it working correctly because I do plan to use the A/C (OK gets hot in the summer)
-
You still don't need a canister AFAIK
-
Never saw a MK1 or 2 diesel with one.. Probably because the vac pump makes a constant vacuum unlike a gasser that relies on varying intake vacuum... IF you really feel the need for one you could use one from any ole make or model...

This. ;D

As a side bar....those Mk. I gasoline multi-circular-pod vacuum reservoirs (located on the inner side of the hoods) are worth quite a bit of money to hotrodders who set up roadsters and such. Sold every one of them that I ever had out of salvage cars.

like everyone already stated, your vac pump makes vacuum whenever the engine is running. and how often are you going to have the a/c on without the engine driving the a/c pump?
diesel cars did not come with a vacuum canister from the factory. IDK why they would need one 30 years later?

Where are these "hotrodders"? I have about a dozen of those pods and can't sell a lick.

YEah, x2.. I put black powder in a few of those and blew them up...
-
Advert them on craigslist under automotive parts. Take one with you to the next car show you attend.
-
Just curious, and way off topic, did you have them listed on their own or with other parts??
-

i bet they make a good boom huh?

Not bad, I was expecting a bit more, but it was acceptable...

Hey Trav, what kind/year model of car are you working on ?
Should be a rubber hose connected to top of your vac pump.
With a plastic nipple that has side prong(s). The top of the nipple is the connector for your pwr brake booster - a side prong is the feed for your HVAC ducting/flapper connection.

It's an 81 wabbit..
the tricky part is that I'm trying to fit in a cabriolet dash into it, and it looks like the climate controls are all different. (to a point), not quote sure about the heater/ac box.....but I'm trying to get a handle on the stock vacuum setup, before I try to convert it over to the cabby controls so I know what goes where. Looks like the main difference is the vacuum manifold, is a different style, and the cabriolet had a temperature capillary.

the rabbit will/should have cable controlled heater parts. the cabby will be completely vacuum operated. you may have to swap out the WHOLE HEATER BOX..

This one was a Deluxe, so it had cable for the heater valve and heater controls, but had vacuum actuators and servos for the vents
