cold start problem
« on: July 17, 2007, 09:47:08 am »
tried staring my golf 3 mornings on the trot now and every morning warm plugs up relay clicks. so i turn her over and over and over and battery dies so i pull up the astra connect jump leads warm up glow plugs again, and she striked up first turn off the key.

my immediate thought was my battery not good enough or even over night diesel draining out off pipes but not 100% sure any help appreciated

Eyl53v is playing up eh? try sitting in the car with the interior light on,turn ignition on,see if light goes dim,if it does the glow plugs are drawing power, also there is a fuse inline for the glow plugs

yes she is!

the interior light isn't wired up lol

but i think i may have worked this one out

just now she killed the battery so hooked up my mums astra and she took a few tries to start i'm thinking its the glow plugs them selves. the in line fuse is fine (dangling in engine bay) and relay is new, but i think it may be the glow plugs them selves.  i'm gunna buy some new ones and see how she goes

while i got you attention bert just a couple off q's

should the be white smoke blowing out off the rocker cover breather  (connected to inlet) once engine warm?

and the 3 sensors on the end off the clock from rear to front what are they? and what color cables should be on them?

Smoke out the breather tube is normal, dont worry,i would put a splash guard under the rocker cover if there isnt one though,
The sensors are coolant, one goes to dash to do the gauge, the other is for the glow plug relay,so when the engine is hot the glow plugs dont activate, its pissing down here so if you think im going outside now YOUR WRONG    will look tom

I had a similar starting problem with my MK2 GTD

Turns out theres a plastic housing for the reduction gearbox in the diesel starter motor, turns out mine had shattered into 5 pieces :?

ok once again this mornin wouldn't start so i removed glow plug cable off the fuse in the engine bay connected to battery and she started straight away

so i'm thinking something to do with the coil light not coming on on the dash  but definatly beyond my knowledge off the car
