what is the popular consensus on what to do with the hose that vents the crankcase?

originally it got routed back into the intake, i've been told that this is not good, what options exist?

if blowby is really bad you can route it to a catch can. you will need to empty the can every once in a while.

It's fine with some modifications such as cleaning the valve cover screen, adding the camshaft oil splash shield and an oil separator (if your car didn't already come with them), and tee-ing in a hose into the valve cover breather and running it down to the crankcase vent by the oil filter. And all that isn't really necessary unless your engine is worn and has lots of blowby.

I just vent mine straight to the atmosphere via a road draft tube.

I'm adding a catch-can as well. I was told that the reason for the breather is to help prevent waste exhaust or some crap? It's an environmental thing or something like that. All I know is that it really uglies up my air filter.

Venting the crankcase to the atmosphere allows some nasty hydrocarbons to pollute the air. Also, you have to empty the can.

IMHO there's no reason to use a catch-can if you have a well-maintained breather system and normal blowby. If you have enough blowby that the breather system can't keep up, you have bigger problems to worry about than catch-cans.

Just my .02. I know a lot of guys run catch-cans but I think they're all crazy.

Oh yes, I'm sure my ~4cfm of CCV fumes coming out of the tube are a major contributor to "global warming".

I'll be the first to scoff at the global warming scaremongers, and I'll readily agree that it's completely silly to go to great lengths to curb the tiniest bit of pollution. But the breather system is so simple and easy, it's almost more work to set up a catch can than it is to just use the stock system.

Yeah, maybe I should give my system a closer look. I don't have a problem with blow-by, so why should I be adding a catch-can?
