Group buy?

I can see import export duty being a problem with sending pump to US then back

I send mine from France, postage app.90 euro, on the custom declaration wrote pump core value 25 $ (Giles told me to do so); when he was finished send it back Airmail (3 days) for 160 Can$ (app.100 euro) no problem with custom; maybe I has just been lucky :)

Though its still going to be the same problem sending a pump out of the EU to Canada and back is going to incur customs import duties

i'm pretty sure theres stipulations about sending a part out to get fixed and then having it shipped back to you...

technically you shouldn't have to pay import duties since you're just getting it fixed...?

"Warranty work" or something of that nature on the declaration should do it.  I thought that between England and Canada there wouldn't be an issue, or is that no longer so with the motherland?

Thinking about it, I dont think you pay duty on second hand stuff and as the pumps are old should be ok

write 'antique car part' on the customs sheet... value $10.  it should be fine

i don't really like dealing with the US... they open all my stuff and rip packages...  i got some head studs and the package didnt need to be torn a new one, but it was... you could clearly see that it was head studs... pretty lame if you ask me.

they want you to think they're 'fighting terrorism'.

if you group all the pumps together and ship at once you'll save a bundle on shipping i'm sure. of course this could also raise questions about the nature of the package.... i'd look into exactly what the rule is for an old part getting sent out for rebuild.

so after checking Giles prices for a rebuild it looks like the whole thing including shipping would probably cost around £500, unfortunatly thats way more than I can realistically afford.

I reckon there must be someone in the UK who can do similar mods, maybe Simon(?) from central Vw Audi, with the mk2 TDi RS? that had a fairly heavily modified mechanical pump right?
