OK, this has been asked before I'm sure. However I have searched the posts and the ones i find are about hybrid turbos....
I just need a simple answer really-
Q- Can I use a 1.6TD Turbo (JR engine code) on a 1.9TD engine.
I have an engine lined up, but the guy is insistent on selling the turbo seperately. I've already got the 1.6TD turbo (and 1.6 manifold)... so... a straight swap?
Cheers,
Alex

Yes I have a 1.6 turbo on my AAZ. The exhaust manifold will work fine but, the intake will need to be from the 1.9 because the head ports are larger (D shaped) then the 1.6 TD. The oil return line is also different. I have made the swap so I might be able to answer some questions you might have.

That's brilliant- I basically have the full 1.9(minus the turbo) to play with (or so i think) and a 1.6TD which has overheated. If it's as simple as just bolting the exhaust mani. straight on then that sounds excellent!
I'll let you know how i get on!

I put a T3 of a 1.6TD on my 1.9TD it is a straight bolt on minus the oil return line (I had one custom made routed into the oil pan..plugged hole in the block form the old one) and the intake hose has to be from a 1.6 or you have make that custom as well cause the 1.6 turbo has a larger diameter intake.....also you have to cut off a piece of the 1.9TD intake manifold....
I can take some pictures maybe tonight or over the weekend to show how I got around these issues!!!!

Its not just a striaght swap. I forgot about that little piece jutting off the intake. I used the "spigot " off the 1.6 intake and bolted it to the AAZ intake. If you are going to use the oil return line from your 1.6, you will have to bend it downward about an inch. I used a torch to heat mine up, just be sure to clean it out well before final install.
