Cam pulley: red loctite or blue?

Hi guys,

a quick last question about mounting my cam pulley of my 1.9td,AAZ..
I  torqued to 45lbs.ft, rewhacked it,and for safety am gonna put the RED loctite on it. It's a M12 bolt of 40mm long though, and a friend of mine said I was never gonna get that loose anymore  and should use the blue loctite.Has anyone put red loctite on it already and loosened afterwarts- also:should I apply it over the whole length? :?:

I use nothing on the cam bolt.  Torque to the bently spec. and then a hammer tweek on a combination wrench.

Yeah, I don't put any lock tite on either.......
The Cam is tapered. It is not really the
bolt that holds it on...... Granted I wouldn't
run around without the bolt....

I was told (so how somewhere cnat remember where)
that is was a bad idea to use it on aluminum...
Something to do with when you remove the bolt
that had locktite on it, it can strip the trhead...

I dont know about blue but if you put red on there it would never come off... ever, even if you needed it to. Would have to heat it up to break down the red loctite and too much heat would start to anneal the cam.

blue loctite is good it holds nice and with a bit of effort it will come off red you have to heat up. the best thing to do is go by the book. adding any lubricant (loctite in its liquid form) will change the torque numbers.

locktite can be corrosive
just do it dry
and yea if you did use red,it would loosen up with heat from a propanre torch+that wouldnt ruin the cam,it wont get hot enough with propane
propane is pretty "safe" in that respect,the acetylene can get you too hot+warp+ruin stuff

DO NOT use loctite on the camshaft sprocket or bolt.
