Has anyone used stainless flex pipe like you see on semi's to fab a down pipe. JC whitney sell this at a reasonable price, and seems like a good solution instead of custom bending or fabbing.

It does not last. I've used it on skid-steer loaders on the farm and the diesel vibration tears it apart very quickly.

Yeah - it won't last and won't bend any significan't amount.  Like 10-15 degrees or something.  I cracked a couple on a normal gasser engine that was driven really hard as a replacement for the stock flex pipe when I upgraded the exhaust and downpipe.  I fixed it with better engine mounts and a ball-socket pipe connection.  Not that you needed to know that...

yea i used to have this on my old truck,,in the place that an early a1 would have it,,i was changing it every2 months,,,theni got a 2.5 inch stailness flex piece,,theycost a little, dude gave me a deal on mine,like 35$,,usually theyseem to run 50 or so,,,dude said this thing was onhis shelf for 5 years! he gave me a deal to move it outta there,,,,,,,,imtellin ya if you are in cleveland oh,lookin for an oddball part,,go to clarkautoparts on the west side,,,,,, it cost a little,,,,butno more crappy flex breaking  :P
