Quick oil pan qustion

Swapped an aaz into my suzuki samurai and I have very little clearance between the oil pan and the axle. I ordered this pan  http://www.hansautoparts.com/048103601-OilPan.aspx about a year ago because the drain plug was in an easier to reach location. I never really attempted to install it but when I did a quick comparison a couple months back I noticed the pan is shallower then the one from my aaz so I gave up on using it. I just changed my main/rod bearings and I have my stock pan off at the moment and I just realized the shorter pan would actually be of benefit to my install, at least temporarily until I can install a lift kit, then I can revert to a larger capacity pan.

Anyone have any idea what pickup tube or dipstick I would want to use for this pan? Is the aaz and 1.6td pan the same height? How much clearance should I have between the pickup and the pan?

I believe that the oil pump pickup tube is different for use with that pan.

I relocated the bung in my pan.
Whacked out enough steel to have the patch lay flat. This has given me enough space between the pan and the axle.
As you can see, the problem with doing that is getting the weld sealed up properly so the oil doesn't seep out the little pin holes in the weld...

Weld, spray wd40, check for leaks, wipe, weld , repeat... and I still didn't get it right...

On the 1.6TD diesel, I had the axle hammer it's own clearance out. Wasn't intentional, but that's how that one worked out...

I've relocated the drain plug on my current pan but was hoping to use the smaller pan until I get my lift. It was actually fairly easy to do. I just drilled a new hole and bolted the drain plug and but onto the pan pretty tight, I then just welded the crap out of the inside of the pan. I never tested it for leaks before I installed it but no leaks yet. I went towards the front of the pan, it's really easy to get at but I kind of wish I put it towards the back and completely cleared the axle, would have made oil changes a lot cleaner. In its stock location I couldn't even fit a wrench on the drain plug and that is with pretty big extended shackles. With the stock shackles the pan was literally sitting on my axle. I've got an old aaz block I was going to throw out as well as 3 old oil pickup tubes. I might try and modify one to the right size for the smaller pan and run that until I save up for the lift kit.

Eventually planning for spoa ruf and yj in the back with missing links and probably 31s or 33s and some heavy duty axles.

Just a simple 1.9AAZ pan.
No ports other than the drain plug (turbo drains into the block on mine)
