Is the accessory bracket necessary?
« on: May 31, 2016, 12:59:25 pm »
'97 AAZ engine,

The aluminum accessory bracket that holds the alternator, AC compressor and serpentine tensioner that bolts to the water pump.

Is it necessary to provide support for the injector pump or will the injector pump get along just fine without it? Thing is, there is one bolt on the outside of the IP bracket that bolts to the accessory bracket.

I swapped in a double V belt harmonic balancer from a 1.6td, installed the samurai alternator on the turbo side of engine and found a properly sized belt for the water pump. As a result, I don't need the accessory bracket and am looking to pitch it if it's not necessary...

No you don't need it.
Where did you find a dual v belt pulley? I have the same swap and Was trying to find one a while back but gave up on it. Would prefer to avoid a serp belt if possible.

The bolt from the pump bracket to the accessory bracket isn't present on non-AC AAZ cars, the hole on the pump bracket is just empty floating in space. That's how VW made em, you'll be fine.

Thanks guys,

I pulled my double vbelt off the 1.6TD I had removed from the samurai. Essentially, scavenged parts from the 1.6 to bolt on to the 1.9 to make the step up easier.
