oil leak at head gasket between #1 & 2
« on: October 24, 2015, 02:18:42 pm »
Back a few months ago I did a bunch of work on my 92 Eco: New clutch, rear main seal, outer intermediate shaft bearing, most seals on the ACN tranny and for the first time the car was totally dry, not a drop of oil on the concrete driveway for months till a week ago, when the weather got cooler. I thought it was a crappy Teflon rear main seal since black diesel was dripping from the lowest point on the bell housing. I also noticed oil below the glow plugs on the block which was all wet so I washed the engine and went for a drive and saw oil coming out of the head gasket area between glow plugs 1 and 2. I did not see anymore drips from the bell housing so what was dripping there before was likely just from the head gasket making its way down there.

I am going to try re-torqueing the head gasket. What is the correct procedure and what's the chance of success?

Beam style wrench.
Torque the stretch bolts until the lb ft stops rising. You can feel when they start stretching.
