Can't get the turbo drain fitting off the oil pan
« on: July 11, 2015, 07:33:14 am »
Doing a clutch job while the engine is disconnected is the time to do the intermediate shaft bearings. I made Tawney's black iron pipe cap bearing removal/install tool, got the engine tilted and the I shaft out. Tried everything and couldn't get the turbo oil drain fitting undone on the oil pan. What are my options? I don't really want to cut it and have to buy a new flex drain line. Are they even available? Has anyone cut a section of tubing off (between the flare fittings) and splice with a short length of hose?

My other option is do just the outer I shaft bearing which can be done without pan removal. Any ideas welcome.

Last time I did mine it was tough too. I don't remember having enough room for a pipe, but mighta used some other ghetto leverage on the wrenches.

Can you get the nut loose but not get the fitting out? If so, you need to drop the pan or raise the turbo to get enough flex in the line to remove it.

If the nut is stuck, put a big hammer on one side of the nut and hit the other side of the nut with a different hammer. That should loosen the nut up. Hit it hard but not too hard.

It was the nut that I couldn't loosen. I did the outer I shaft bearing w/o dropping the pan.
