How to Prime the Injection Pump??
« on: July 04, 2014, 08:50:17 am »
I read about individuals "priming" the injection pump for one reason or another. I guess one does this after a pump rebuild and for other reasons.

What is the injection pump priming procedure??? Yeah, how do you do it????

It is the process of filling the pump with fuel so it is lubed and able to work properly. Anytime the pump is not full of fuel for whatever reason. It is better on the pump than spinning it dry with the starter on the car and it will start easier.

Pumps, funnel, vacuum on the out bolt, or similar...all you are doing is filling the pump with diesel.

Buy a big syringe and fit some hose to it that will easily fit on the fuel filter. That way you can be sure of only putting clean fuel into your pump. I bought mine at TSC tractor supply in the pet section. Vet use only...

I use a vacuum evacuator on the return side of the pump. Make sure to have the stop solenoid energized.

Stop solenoid doesn't matter for filling the pump, it only controls fuel flow to the high pressure head. It has no impact on fuel flowing through the pump.
