DIY Anti-Rattle Clips for MK2 1991 Jetta??

Does anyone have a home-grown solution that would replace the anti-rattle clips on a 1991 MK2 Jetta disc brake???

The solution is to take the whole spindle/bearing assembly off and throw it away. Replace with spindle/bearing/dust shield assemblies from a mk3 car (1993-1999 Jetta, Golf) with a 2.0 very easy to find at junkyards. It's a different design that does away with the troublesome and ineffective anti-rattle clips. This also allows you to use the larger Corrado brakes (11") if you want to but you can just use the standard mk3 parts. It's a bolt-on job that takes about an hour per side and is super cheap, though I recommend new rotors, pads and hoses at least. I also recommend replacing the master cylinder with the slightly larger mk3 master cylinder as the caliper bores are large but you don't need to. Again, this is a direct swap into a mk2.

On an earlier mk2 you need axles from a later mk2 but on a 1991 you shouldn't need to change the axle.

Sounds like a great idea(s), but I'm thinking of something a bit more creative and CHEAP.

Maybe putting a medium hard piece of rubber between the pads somewhere in there?

Use the orange disk brake quiet stuff, then again I love mk3 spindles and brakes as an option.

All that thread says is how to install the anti-rattle clips that (are supposed to) come with a brake job. I don't really see where you're getting that this is an alternative to the current setup.

The mk3 brake setup is super cheap and DIY friendly though. Everything I needed (minus the pads and rotors) was like $30 at the junkyard but it was 1/2 off. I actually got Corrado calipers but it's the same idea, Corrado is just another upgrade on top of the mk3 Jetta brakes.

You missed the first pic. Gives that pic and in it the Raybestos part # of 15663A. Says you get the clips and the rubber caliper boots as well approx. 9.97

Is this an issue? I've never had trouble finding the clips (when I owned cars that required them, I no longer do). I go to the parts store and ask for a "front brake hardware kit," that's what all the stores seem to call these sorts of items and usually the boots are in there to.

Here's my creation. This removes 95% of the rattle so far...not sure if the wires will stay in place.

The concept is that of a pendulum. The wire is not wrapped tight and will hopefully stay in place by gravity alone. It's just dangling there.

I only applied the wire to the top of the shoe thinking that it's weight causes more friction on the lower end and it sort of rests down there. The top just sort of wiggles around hither and thither. There is a certain amount of "looseness" so that the shoes still have free movement.

Yeah, I know, they'll come off at the first hard bump. If so, I'll loop the wire through the lower end of the shoe so it can't come off. Do the same if I want to make it quieter.....as it is, barely a tinkle!!

How will I know if the wire breaks or jumps off???.............rattle, rattle, rattle!!!!

Not and engineer's solution, but cheap and simple.

You should have continued the wire down the the bottom of the pad and wrapped it the same way.  I have seen it done that way several times.

The hanging wires jumped off on the left side, so I looped the wires lower to catch the bottom end of the shoe.....not likely to come off now !!!

Right side still hanging in with the original fix......I'll full wire those too....later.
