Can I swap turbo's on the AAZ?
«

My 1993 AAZ came with a K03 turbo. It also has an " LDA" injection pump on it.
Can I bolt on a Garret T2 turbo, complete with the T2 specific exhaust manifold and oil return line to my 1993 AAZ? This Garret T2 is from an AAZ, but I'm not sure of the year...newer or older. Will it work with the LDA injection pump? Is the oil feed line the same?
Newbie question, I know
.
Thanks.

You also need to either change or modify your downpipe. You may need a new turbo boost hose and intake hose. I thing geebee has the dimensions somewhere on here related to silicon replacements he was making. Oil feed is the same or close enough.

This AAZ is going into a Samurai.
Yep, I can see that the downpipe flange is different between the K03 and the T2. I will need to fab a down pipe for this engine swap and turbo, either way. Same for the intake hose.......design yet to be determined....
I was wanting to know if there were any compatibility issues between the Garrett T2 and the LDA inj. pump. If not, it's good to know I have a choice of which turbo to use. I'm leaning towards staying with the K03, as it's in better condition and it spools up quickly I understand.....good for off road use in a Sami.
The K03 does have a broken banjo fitting though, so if anyone has one to sell? or knows of a mod to get around using the OEM part? It's the female banjo fitting / hose barb that is broken. It connects the hose from the main turbo body to the wastegate actuator? Delicate little piece it is.....

The LDA injection pump is affected by boost. It does not know or care how that boost is produced or which turbo produces it.

Rebuild kit for the T2... just did mine this weekend. Very easy to do, highly recommended before you install the turbo.
I had to drill a couple of holes in the new hotside clamp rings to match the old ones, and the rubber O-ring for the compressor is too large, other than that the kit is perfect. $70.
Includes a 360-degree thrust washer, which is a big longevity upgrade.
