mk2 diesel 3 belt setup alternator belt upgrade

Not sure if that is a good title or not, but you may get the point. For mk2 NA and TD motors with the three belt setup. If you have a problem with the alternator belt breaking there are a few things you can do, this is from my experiences.

The bearing for the belt tensioner is just a standard sealed bearing that you can get from any auto parts store. Ask for a 6202 2RS. Press the new one out and press the new one in. That info is elsewhere on the site but i'm putting it here too.

The alternator can be dragging the system down for lack of a better term. This can be helped by running an extra ground directly to the battery and cleaning all of the corrosion off of the alternator wires and battery.

Another thing you can do if the alternator tensioner pulley is giving you problems (I went through like 5 belts on a car once) is take the tensioner pulley off and use a 26 or 26.5"x1/2" Kevlar V belt. This can be bought at Tractor Supply Company. or places like that. I adjusted the ac and ps belt as normal and fought to get the Kevlar belt on the ac pulley and alternator pulley. It has lasted about 5 months now with no adjusting. The Kevlar is nice and strong and is fat enough that it will wear a lot before there becomes an issue with too little tension.

I know the 3 belt setup sucks so hopefully it helps someone out
