Air-box/filter recommendations?
« on: May 18, 2013, 03:25:29 pm »
I will be needing an air box for my 1.9 AAZ Vanagon soon. The filter that was on it when I bought it was a smallish K&N cone on ABS pipe routed to the intake column on the drivers side. As I recall, it was noisy. I'd like to have a stock box for an AAZ application but am open to any ideas.
The head is ported, the exhaust is 2.5", and the pump has been done by Giles if it matters.

I'll figure out where and how to mount it but I'm looking for good flow, easy filter change and low noise.

If someone has some pointers or something to sell let me know.

I forget who it was but someone used to always run this one type of filter box that they showed always made more power,  I think it was gtd joe or someone or the fsp gtd.  it was a cylinder looking deal and he compared no air box vs air box no filter and air box with filter and with the filter made the most power

I am wondering if a stock AAZ box possibly from a Jetta or Passat would serve the purpose.
I have no idea what one even looks like. I just think it would be good not to have too many parts from different vehicles on this thing.
Also, I'm not sure that it will even flow enough air.

Thanks for retrieving the post. My turbo is a K-14 and I plan on boosting to 18 after the engine has a few miles on it. I will also be running a WAIC as well. Do you (or anyone else) know what amount of air would need to flow through the unit at WOT?

With that turbo not very much probably around 150hp which is generous, so u could look or an air box from a car with something close to 150hp.
