• I'm finally getting to the rebuild of my AAZ and am finding it quite frustrating to order the proper parts.
  Hoping someone can give me part numbers or steer me in the right direction. One frustrating thing is that some sites list what appear to be the proper parts but then I find that the AAZ isn't listed as one of the engines, just ALH or AHU. Are these engines the same as the AAZ in that respect?
  As I don't know what year or model this engine came from, it's tough to tell if I'm on the right track. All the parts houses want to know that info, so I start guessing.
  
  I'd love to have the software that provides part numbers, but I tried to download it and got in trouble with my internet provider cause I was running a "torrent" - so that's out.
  
  For example, thinking I had the correct main bearings, I quickly discovered that what I bought was under size. The crank journals are stock and in fine shape. So what I bought is scrap and I'm back to web shopping. I also discovered that the head bolts I bought are for a 1.6 (way too small).
  Ideally I'd like to find all this at the same website but from what I'm finding, that may not be possible. Some sites have the bearings but not the bolts - go figure.
  
  Here are the parts I need:
  Main Bearings, standard, preferably KS
  Rod Bearings, standard, KS
  High quality Cap Bolts
  High quality Rod bolts
  "D" shaped TDI sprocket (will weld/mill the crank nose)
  Head Bolts (may go with ARP studs)
  Metal Head Gasket (need to wait till the pistons are in first so I can measure height)

• Places that are geared toward a U.S. clientele do not generally list AAZ parts because that engine was not an option for any cars ever sold here, so they don't bother with it... You may find AAZ stuff on somewhere like rockauto that operates internationally and allows you to select euro or canadian market vehicles as options. Something like a 1994 td Jetta would be AAZ. Like most VW engines, it is similar to all other water cooled cylinder VW engines with a few, usually critical exceptions.

• Just last week I called Autohauz AZ and pointed out that they list a TDI valve cover gasket for the AAZ code motor.
  
  It can be a pain.  Part numbers are your friend, copy of ETKA wouldn't hurt, the vag-cat site might still be up too.

  Any ideas on how I can obtain a copy of ETKA? I tried to download it (as I sort of mentioned) and got in trouble with my ISP for running a torrent which is the only way I found to get it (actually I don't really know how to run a "torrent" anyhow).

• vag-cat is your best bet, it isn't easy getting ETKA, or easy getting it to run since it's a bit of a hack to run it without an account.
  Then there is the version bit, too new will be missing a lot of NLA parts for older stuff.
  If you get stuck on something PM me and I'll see what I can find out.

  I think I have it sorted. Still waiting for acceptance from admin from vag-cat - strange.
  
  Found a link on another forum and have the correct part numbers for the items I listed - they are purchased.
  Also have ARP stud set on the way as well.

  Thanks 8V but I don't need the hassle (notice the word pirate?). Besides, in my limited experience, there's a bunch of crap required after you get all the bits.
  The two sites previously listed are free and should meet my needs for now. Hopefully I won't be looking up VW part numbers all the time
