There are so many VW clusters with different connectors out there that it can get pretty confusing. I am going to post pics of different cluster connector types that I have collected in order to identify them. Please chime in with your knowledge.

This is is a CE2 from a MK2 92 Ecodiesel with one 28 pin connector

This is a CE1 cluster with 2 connectors

This one is from a Westmoreland Caddy. The connector is nothing like CE1 or CE2 so what would you call this CE?

This one is from a 92 Cabriolet and the connector is nothing like CE1 or CE2 or Westmoreland Caddy

This one has one black connector, which is the same as the black connector on a CE1 cluster . Does anyone know what model and year it came from?

This is the front of the cluster. p/n 533 919 035 CF

my guess on last one is german 78-92 style... aka mk1 jetta, cabby starting 81, dasher starting 78ish...

westy wiring is westy wiring...

german till ce1 is german... ce1 starts 83... pre that ceramic fuses... like 70s bug...

ce2 starts 88.. but golfs are mix of ce1, westy and ce2.. depends where built...

Is there such a thing as a westy (US built) cluster with a tach? I have an 85 US built Golf and have long wanted to swap in a cluster with a tach, is there one that would fit (connector wise)?

85 Golf Diesel 1.6 NA 240K miles? (odometer broken)
87 Cabriolet 1.8 Gasser 104K miles
05 Golf 2.0 Gasser 66k miles
03 Jetta Wagon TDI 112k Miles

Last one look to be a mid 80's MK2 US spec gasser. The stamp on the tach looks like '86.
93 Golf - AAZ with some fueling
78 Rabbit - 1.5 DIESEL (finally)

its probably a quantum.  it has the single mounting tab up there in the middle.  i think its interesting that it has the 8k tach like a 16v would have.  but i would put my money on it being a quantum, or maybe even from an audi with a 20v 5 cylinder?

yeah it could be a scirocco cluster too, but i think scirocco would be ce1, who knows tho, maybe the pre 83 sciroccos had something funky going on there.  also 16v sciroccos had a 160mph speedo.

ill say again as for somereason my knowledge is not being read..

it is a ce1 cluster with a ruined pcb where the 2nd plug was ripped off it..

mk2 rocco, quantium, and golf/jetta used it.. they all got middle top hole too... just not used in mk2..

other odd ball cluster.. fox... looks cross between ce1 and westy..

You are right as usual CRSMP5. The cluster was given to me as a good cluster and I never looked at it closely and assumed it was built that way with one connector. A closer look at the photo you can see the foil is ripped at the missing connector. It is a CE1 cluster which had 2 connectors. I guess the best thing to do with this cluster now is take the tach and convert it to W terminal and sell it to someone who wants a tach in their CE1 diesel.

whooohhhaaaa.. 8k gasser tachs have value.. do not do that... diesel not revin to 8k.. so dont. sell to gasser guy..

i had looked at the pic after i saw front side.. saw its tear.. somehow missed the molded plastic tangs for the plug.. when i looked for then the 1st time.. 2nd pic you can see the tangs..so went looked at 1st pic..

now ce1, westy, ce2.. so on.. clock vs tach.. 99% of time they interchange mix/match unless tach/clock lead cut off..  so taking 7k cluster you can build 8k cluster... or say a diesel closck cluster will work the 8k gasser no prob.. the oxs/glow light use same circuit.. if you plugged the gasser into diesel all but tach work work lik eit a diesel..

How much is the 8k tach worth these days? Is Vortex the place to sell it?
