Engine dimensions
« on: October 01, 2012, 11:21:14 am »
Hey guys newbie here.  Sorry if this question is in the wrong place didn't know where else to put it.  Could anyone give me the dimensions of a 1.6td engine or tell me where to find them?  I'm just looking for rough dimensions around the engine length, width, and height.  I would appreciate any help you can give me.  I'm researching a swap project and I can't find dimensions anywhere.  Thanks for your help.

Vince

Beachy...you were on here before IIRC from the sugarcreek area, maybe??? If not it sure sounds like a guy that used to post infrequently here. Beachy is a common name where I am from for ... nevermind.

I can get them from my block but it is roughly 16" across the bottom 6" across the top around 17" tall and 20" or so on the length of it on the crank. If you need it more specific I will bust out the tape.

Yep that was me.  Good to talk to you again.  Are those dimensions just from the block or the whole engine.  Also are the tdi engines the same dimensions wise or are they a new design.  I was thinking how cool would one of these engines be on a custom bmw motorcycle.  If you were curious.  Anyway thanks for the info.

That would have been just the block. If you want oil pan to valve cover, timing belt cover to crank end, and water pump housing to rear of engine add a bunch.
TDI would be around an inch taller, just in the deck height alone. ALH may have more changes, but the AHU would be the same basic measurements as the AAZ

A little more than rough dimensions :) This is TDI, 1,6 has 16mm lower block, otherwise pretty much same.

Thank you for that MJF.  That's the type of post I particularly appreciate.
