I have serched for this and did not find what i was looking for. My question is how do i check the engine speed. I know how to change it I just want to know how to check it? There is no signal for a timing light so how do you check it? I know you would check it on the timing spot on the trans. I am adding a TAC and want to make it as accurate as i can.
I use a diesel pulse adapter and timing light with rpm function.
Look around for a phototach. All you do then is to put some reflective tape on the pulley of your IP and use the phototach to get the RPM of the pump. RPM of engine = RPM of pump x2. Or, you can put 2 pieces of the reflective tape on the pulley, 180 degrees apart and then the RPM read on the phototach will be the RPM of the engine.

I use this one .. cheapo from china via ebay. I just stuck a piece of the tape on the flywheel and pointed it in there, worked perfectly.
thanks for the info i will look into it
