Transmission debate
« on: April 12, 2012, 04:29:53 pm »
OK, so now after really looking into what i'll have to do to get the FF transmission into my mk2 Jetta I'm torn. ??? The stock transmission is a AVX,really not the best of the best. But to avoid possible complications I might stay with AVX. But i would LOVE to run the FF, Its that i just cant seem to find an easy way to get it in there. Everything is out of the bay right now so if i need to configure something its possible. I am at a loss. What you do? Input is appreciated  ;)

why can you not use the mk1 trans in the mk2? the mk2 bracketry should bolt right up..
92 Jetta GLI - Black, 1.6D w/ GT2056V turbo..
86 GTI - 4 Door, Med Twilight Gray, Tow Machine..
86 Audi Coupe GT - Tornado Red, All Stock.. WRECKED.
89 Toyota 4Runner - Dark Grey Metallic, LIFTED!

Turbo: exhaust gasses go into the turbocharger and spin it, witchcraft happens and you go faster.

the one arm from the far left of the trans will but the shift linkage one wont, the FF lacks the three bolt holes for the bracket,
Would the one arm from the left of the trans hold the weight/torqe safely? I thought about just beefing that up, or welf the other backet on to the trans but i dont know how well that would go..

uh....

oh wow batman...

that trans is SPECIFIC to the mk1..

must be a PRETTY EARLY version to not have the bosses cast in the case.

even my mk1 4A 4spd trans has the bosses to mount the mk2 bracket..

The FF and FN transmissions were most commonly found on early 80's stuff.. So without the mk2 in sight at that point there was no need to have the extra holes in the case.

The 4A would have been put in while the mk2 was well under production, explaining why it has the mk2 mounting locations.

mk2s never came with a 4 spd tho..

I read on here that the 4A was the only 4 speed swappable to a MK2, possibly MK3 too can't remember.

Thanks einstein ;). At the time they may or may have not known just exactly what they were going to offer and in what. Most likely the reason the 83-87 (for sure) trans are interchangeable.

Gas cars are not to be completely un looked at.. MANY DID COME WITH diesel like ratios, so look at them for sure.
