Stock fuel pipe size?

does anyone know what the internal size of stock fuel line is on the diesels? or what size the barbs take?

I am about to start replacing a large number of diesel lines and want to buy a big roll and the right adaptors in the case of returns which might not need to be as big.

i wanna say the feed is 5 or 6mm, because 1/4 inch fuel hose is a bit large..

I was going to go with 6mm, 1/4" is 6.35mm so it is a bit larger! the really odd thing about my current setup is I am sure some of the lines I used previously are bigger, because the fuel filter from a vanagon has 8mm in/out steel pipe, but I am sure its 6mm from the fuel tank.

I guess I'll just order in a load of 6mm and see how it goes, I'll wait to see if anyone else has any other ideas, most importantly I dont want to go too small, if its 8mm and I put 6mm in thats going to put a bit more stress on the pump sucking through a thinner straw!

We used 10mm to feed the hard pipe at the IP and 6mm return from the hard pipe at the IP.
10mm is a bit large , but works fine.

Cheapest i could find when i was looking , it does say petrol pipe , but they assured me it was ok for diesel , which it seems to be on my lads Caddy

Depends on what car you are talking about.
 I've used 5/16" brake line to replace Rabbit fuel lines under the car... 8mm.

 The plastic ones under a MK2 look thinner.

hmm wish I'd had this before I ordered! Its rare to actually see it cheaper than I can get it on ebay, I paid about £14 for for 10m of 'unleaded' petrol hose, which I bought instead of 'fuel/oil' hose because I believe unleaded petrol has a bit more bite to it than other fuels like diesel, as a result i figured food safe oils running through lines that should withstand nasty petrol should be fine!

I have gone with 6mm in the end, landrover fuel lines for the 2.25litre petrol are 6mm, vw beetle/camper petrols are 5mm and even our tractors(1960s) I am pretty certain they are about 6mm (probably 1/4").

Interestingly I have bought a big double filter unit for my second oil tank and surprisingly between the 2 filters the actual drilled holes cant be much more than 6mm at best, so I am glad I havent over spec'd the lines based on that.
