I know there are a few threads around on the subject; Thought I could start a new one and get a bunch of pics posted so people can get some ideas.

Might sound silly but I have been thinking of doing something similar to get the intake away from the engine. But I havent figured out what to do with the blowby hose (I think its called)?

What are you doing to delete/reroute that hose. Is it needed?

dieselbalz, does your engine have excessive blowby? or drink its own oil? Any particular reason as to why you wish to delete it?

I dont have any reason to delete it, and she has been steady on her oil levels since Ive had it. Just wanna run a custom intake and wanna know if its something I need to have.

it needs to be vented for sure, doesn't necessarily have to make its way back in to the intake tract an atmospheric dump down behind the block should work nicely for you.

You could put a can at the end of the vent to catch the oil and let the air go free. You'd have to dump it every now and then though.

Usually the breather goes to the intake manifold though, replacing the intake hose won't affect that.

This; My breather/PCV setup is un-changed, this is just a larger diameter air intake tube. Seems to pull a little better at highway speeds. Got a little louder, deeper low end sound. Exhaust is next as I hear this is one of the best mods for the N/A's I have an 8V dual downpipe from a GTI... but I'm considering not using it as I'm afraid I may not be able to get the current exhaust manifold off without breaking some studs...   so I may opt for a custom downpipe off the stock manifold (2.25")

Anyone else with pics of their modded intakes?

why even modify it? does it need to be deleted for your particular style of intake to work? the breather was vented into the intake manifold so the blow by gasses could lubricate the intake valves..

Not saying I need to delete it, just exploring options cause right now the cone sits right in front of the tb cover. I wanna plumb it way up front to get it away from the heat of the motor. Also considering a raintray set up.

trust me, i run a open breather.. i HATE it.. it really sucks in the summer, or when you wanna smoke a cig.. all those wonderful breather vapors wafting past your window..

only reason i dont vent it into my intake is :

1.) my turbo has mediocre oil seals, it oils my intake valves enough as it is.

2.) there is no where for me to easily hook up my CCV system to the intake..

i really wish i had a real CCV system that i didnt have to smell.. plus, the smoke from under the hood at stop lights and signs, is kinda gay..

Oh my. I dont want it to smoke from under the hood. Would constantly screw with my head. I am sure its not difficult, probably a thread around here on it, to tap the new intake and keep it a closed system.

Never heard that theory before, what lubes the exhaust valves?

I always thought the blowby went back into the engine so the toxic gasses would burn up and not harm this poor suffering planet........

swear over my left teste! the blow by gasses are ved into the intake to lubricate the intake valves..

I dunno about that, they were vented back to the intake(like they are on almost all cars for a very long time) because it is cleaner, and there is nothing for the stupid owner to clean/empty.

the valve guides are self lubricating bronze, no need for oil to lube them.
