« on: April 18, 2011, 09:17:55 am »
Part number 068 103 383 FL   they seem to be out of stock everywhere..

Been snooping around all the usual vendors (Myke, Parts Place, AutohausAz, etc) with no luck..  Anyone get one recently, and from where?

bought one from napa auto parts a year or so back. it was a fel-pro gasket, 1 notch.. like 22 bucks..
92 Jetta GLI - Black, 1.6D w/ GT2056V turbo..
86 GTI - 4 Door, Med Twilight Gray, Tow Machine..
86 Audi Coupe GT - Tornado Red, All Stock.. WRECKED.
89 Toyota 4Runner - Dark Grey Metallic, LIFTED!

Turbo: exhaust gasses go into the turbocharger and spin it, witchcraft happens and you go faster.

Already covered them as well as Carquest, Bumper to Bumper, Federated, Advance, Autozone...   Last one I bought was about a year ago as well.. Kind of thinking I should have gotten a few..  2 notchers don't seem to be a problem yet.. And the one notch for hydro lifters is easily found too.. Maybe it's just a temporary thing till they get around to making more..

I still have a couple feelers out to some local guys that have hoards of old parts about.. If anyone's gonna have it Glen probably will..  He had a complete rebuild kit on the shelf for the Oldsmodiesel, with head studs and a hardened oil pump shaft!   :o

I think I have one on hand. It would be an Elring or Goetz originally from Azautohaus. I think I have a one and a two.
Let me know if your search fails.

Thanks Dakota!!!!  I been bangin my head trying to think which site I was forgetting..  So good to see "IN STOCK" for once today..  I think I still may get a spare of one of my local guys has it...

Go figure the engine started with a 2 notch, was decked and bored (new pistons), and still ended up at the low end of a 1 notch.. I suppose resizing the rods AFTER all the other work was a bad idea...

Out of curiosity: the last gasket on there is a higher priced "Beck Arnley" brand.
Is "Beck" products good stuff or what? Years ago, I got one of their tie rod ends on ebay or somewhere....anyway, I just wasn't impressed with the quality of the part and THAT was long before so many of these tie rods now days have this problematic "crepe-paper" thick rubber boots.

Is Beck Arnley stuff from Great Britian or where???? (NO....I'm NOT throwing rotten tomatos at you nice fellows from der UK! But, now that you mention it.....why do you folks still piddle around with queens, princes, and all that?????) (...just wondering....)

Have you checked with the VW dealer for the head gasket? Its a factory gasket and is a MLS gasket.
I think they are around $75?

Beck Arnley suspension parts never impressed me so much..  Seals and gaskets seem to be okay..  Not sure why so much more for the BA head gasket....

THe MLS is for hydro lifters..   They can be made to work, but I don't really have the need for it on a NA, aka I don't wanna deal with modifying it if I don't have to..  Plus there isn't really a VW dealer around..

Barron, I ordered the gasket from Rockauto the day before, then got an email saying they were out of stock.. I guess they don't have their site updated yet or someone else just beat me to it...  I have the bookmarked if for nothing else part number reference..  They really need to work on their shipping costs though, ouch!..  The local Carquest usually can match their prices less shipping...
