Broke VW said the 85 up 020 all have the bad rivots. Before that the rivots were a lot harder. He said he drilled one out and it was next to impossible. The earlier ones had very little preload on the diff so they rattled. Later ones had a 20% kit basically. Brokevw site has all the info needed on that and he is better at it than me :D

To remove I usually tap it and thread a bolt in then yank it out with hammer but thats my ghetto method!

That works really well... just need to watch for shavings, although they are brass and probably won't hurt anything in the long run anyways.

Because I always have the back off to replace the throw-out bearing I just use a long metal rod (that's a bit thicker than the pushrod) as a drift thru the hollow drive shaft...driving the bushing and seal out in one pass.

The new bushing goes back in first and is indented a bit to leave room for the seal.

'82 Rabbit, I put on a euro vnt-15, 2.25" DP, 2.5" exhaust, the result.....it whistled.

I removed the turbo, made a toilet bowl 2.5" DP, the result....it was deafening. Now it has a homemade muffler up front and a thrush in the rear, the result.....less loud.
