Is this more than what he'd been quoting people?

oh? so you're not getting your pump back? basically you're trading and giving them 750 for one that's on the shelf that they've already done?

nono if you want to buy one off the shelf. If you send in a pump, they send you back your pump, after being worked on.

NA, TD, TDI, or MTDI? There are many flavours of "Giles Pumps" and they have rather different prices...

1.6 N/A
here's the email he sent me.
-----------------------------------------
here is a before and after dyno of a 1989 Golf with a bare stock 1.6L NA. you be the judge.
I optimize the fuel delivery, advance curve (increase it) and rpm.
full performance rebuild is $750 + shipping.
countless people who have this pump and can testify to it can't be wrong BTW.

$750 has been the going price for an NA Giles pump for as long as I can remember... including one a friend of mine bought 4 years ago.

He quoted us $950 CAD for our 1.6TD pump, so it ended up being around $900 USD. Pretty good deal. Definitely noticed a difference in power after we finished up our rebuild and put on the pump. Quite the peppy car now. The money really is worth it.

750 USD?

Some years back it was 650 CAD.
The currency exchange rate at different times put it to about 600 USD at times. Plus shipping both ways.
I think he went up 100 a couple/few years ago.
Local Bosch fuel shop wants $800 USD for bench rebuild on pre-88 NA Inj Pumps. Thats a standard issue/stock spec rebuild on non-aneroid equipped pumps.
If you need/want a full rebuild - Giles is the clear cut choice.
I think his non-super uber / stock spec builds are 100-150 cheaper than the performance builds.
Another plus is he is thoroughly familiar with these VW pumps and does them very frequently.

I paid 750 two years ago. Now that I have my car RUNNING right, I can tell you its worth every penny, and I don't know what he does but he does it well. I think he sees injection pumps on the backs of his eyelids when he sleeps. He must, because his work is perfect, and flawless.

Worth every effing penny.
You could spend a lot of money on other parts and not come close to the return you get from one of Giles' pumps. You will not be disappointed.
