Responsiveness of 1.6td vs 1.9td?
« on: February 05, 2011, 11:18:59 am »
I'm just sorting out the AAZ injection pump and AAZ injectors to put into my 1.6td. I know the AAZ stuff should quieten down the 1.6 but will it affect is responsivness.
I've looked at a few videos of AAZs on youtube and they all seem a bit sluggish to rev, whereas mine just gets going at the touch of the throttle.

One of my favorite things about the 1.6 diesels is their petrol like response and if its going to make the 1.6 a laggy lazy engine then I'm not doing the swap.

Thanks

The revvy nature of the 1.6 is due to the short stroke crank.

Some AAZ internals, especially the connecting rods, are also heavier, which would definately affect the AAZ's rev capabilities.  I would doubt very much that putting AAZ injectors and fuel pump on your 1.6TD would have any negative effects on its rev-ability

don't forget to do the governer mod and swap the 1.6 fuel pin in

Thanks, i'll continue with that then.
Macka i've already put a GTD pin into it, but I'm a bit weary of the governer mod, I dont usually just stamp my foot on the pedal in neutral, but they do on the annual emissions check. This car is my only car and I basically rely on it. I'm definatly going for more power with it, but I don't want to compromise its daily abilities of being sooo reliable.
I will be fitting ARP studs when the pump is fitted in about a months time and I will remove the head as well, not sure about AAZ gasket yet. The head will be slightly worked on, with exhaust ports polished.

I have also read that low down torque i.e below 2000rpm is less with the AAZ injectors and pump, is this true?

I have couple of questions on 1.6 vs 1.9. Hope this is not a thread jack.
The 1.9 (aaz) has approx 300cc more capacity and the head has a better designed intake port.
Does it have larger valves?
What other advantages might it have over a 1.6?
What disadvantages might it have?
Is the pump as tuneable as the 1.6?

The reason I ask, beyond general interest, is I have a core 1.9 and am considering a build.
I do have a nice 1.6 at present, k14, giles pump, fmic, cleaned up ports, but cant help wanting more.
I could put more turbo on the 1.6.
I could put the 1.9 head on the 1.6.
I could build the 1.9 with more turbo (k03 at present)
What do you think?

i think more displacement is going to make more power period, the 1.9 does have a heavier bottom end but 300ccs is alot more displacement.  if u wanna quickly make more power by just swapping the head and go for a bigger turbo then 1.9/1.6 would be good for you.  1.9 head has 36mm intake valves, 1.6 has 34mm, exhaust valves are the same size

So why would you put an AAZ pump and injectors on a 1.6?
Is the AAZ pump better in some way?
