My bro has an amazing TD
« on: January 23, 2011, 08:17:31 pm »
We just swapped a 1991 TD in to his 84 coupe, and it is incredibly tight.

It is -28c here right now.. it has sat all day long and not plugged in. Started right up with 10-12 seconds on the manual glows. Intense. like without an issue. started like a gasser.

The red 4dr is going to the crusher tomorrow, it was the donor. Unfortunately only two are diesel.. The red coupe, and the 4dr gold. Gold one is my TDI swap candidate, black one is my DD. The two at the end are my gf's (silver mk2.. soon to be diesel powered too :D) and her younger sisters (mk3 ABA 5spd).

Not enough diesels unfortunately ;)

Maybe too late, but if you don't send it to the crusher, did ya think about donating it to a local Fire Dept and letting them cut up the car for practice? Granted, in these economic times money talks, but you can write it off as a donation (at least in the States) while letting the Brothers hone their skills with their extrication tools.

Jimmy that's a great idea, however scrap is oddly high in my area right now.. And if I weren't counting literally every penny I would love to help those who help us.

Hopefully I can donate a few in my lifetime :D

I hear ya. Like I said, in this economy, money talks. As much as I hate to do it, I may scrap my 1980 Mack fire engine. All 29,000 lbs of it  :'( :'(

While I have made money in my investments, this economy still has a long way to go.

Ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

But on the bright side, another VW comes to life... :)

Stay safe, stay well. Jimmy.

Would love to. Drove it from outside of Pittsburgh at a steady 45-47 mph (and got an amazing 8mpg!!) One unique thing is where the bullet almost penetrated the pump panel. Best guess is that it was 'modified' when it served in East New York, Brooklyn in the 'real bad' days. As we have read, I can barely change my own oil, so fixing it myself is out.  It was mentioned that there are tons of vocational high schools in NJ/PA that will do the work if I pay for the materials. If anyone knows of any, drop me a line.  Shame of it is, I was asked many times to use the rig for firemen that have died from 9/11 illnesses as a caisson, but couldn't. So if I have to go back to being a gigolo to raise money (nah, never mind..), but I can get the $$ if a Vocational School could do it. Once I get it done, it can be used. What is even worse is my job will not give the Line of Duty Death Caisson to the families of those lost, so other antique owners and volunteer FD's with antique rigs have stepped up. Anyway, forgive me for the hijack, but keep that VW with the donor car parts running!!!!

Stay safe, stay well. Jimmy.
