Would you run it/ would just a hone fix it.
« on: October 05, 2010, 04:07:14 pm »
So after a botched rebuild i'm left with a spare bottom end that i have sitting around. it ran when i pulled it just blew alot of smoke and was low on power. I was thinking rings but it wasn't blowing by too much oil and it would start up no problem run a second and then smoke hot or cold. When i pulled the head there was oil in the 1 and 4 cylinders. I'm using arp headstuds but how many of you guys would run this bottom end with just a lil cleanup of carbon at the piston line? I messed up 2 pistons and i'm left with little money after my first build so i was hoping i could just re-ring this block, polish the crank, new bearings and be on my way. What do you think?

These are the 2 worst cylinders
4 cylinder

1 cylinder

are those scores in the first cylinder? or just carbon tracks?

if its scored, that bore is trashed..
92 Jetta GLI - Black, 1.6D w/ GT2056V turbo..
86 GTI - 4 Door, Med Twilight Gray, Tow Machine..
86 Audi Coupe GT - Tornado Red, All Stock.. WRECKED.
89 Toyota 4Runner - Dark Grey Metallic, LIFTED!

Turbo: exhaust gasses go into the turbocharger and spin it, witchcraft happens and you go faster.

all the stuff is at the machine shop but it's looking like i'll have to buy another set of oversized pistons which would be no good. Also does anyone have a source for the glyco bearings and seperate thrust washers, i haven't been able to get ahold of myke_w.
