IP id?
« on: August 14, 2010, 11:45:54 am »
I had some questions regarding the differences in these two IP's

1981 Rabbit

This one is of my early 1.6, at least that is what I think it is

It was mentioned in my intro post back in April, that someone thought it was an early 1.6

with these numbers

This pump is on 1.5 I hope to put in place of the ailing 1.6

with these numbers

These pumps look so similar, are they interchangeable..

As it must be obvious to everyone else, these two pumps are different than the pump on a worn out 1.6 I bought to tear down and learn on

You can just make out the can under the ip in the first photo, it leaks a bit but it runs

The other one hasn't seen a drop of diesel in 17 years

I would like to send the 1.5 pump to Giles, but I wondered if I could get buy with a reseal on the (top photo) pump

I have little experience with this stuff, so any help is much appreciated

look at the numbers, they are the SAME PUMP..

did you need to start a thread about that? the numbers are plain and bold. same pump.. part numbers are the same.

next time, just look at the part numbers..

068 130 107 A

Shows to be 77-80 1.5 with manual tranny.
Since both have same number, they both are that same application.

If its running satisfactorly enough on the 1.6, i'd go with it.

i don't know what all would be difrnt on the inside of 1.5 vs. 1.6 pumps - just guessing maybe slightly lower overall fueling.

Perhaps read up on the DIY's of resealing - and do a trial run (dry run without new gaskets) on the pump that has been sitting 17 years before tackling the running pump.

A guy on eBay sells Bosch NA pump rebuild kits WITH the front seal included for $20. You could send him the numbers from your pump to double check if his kit will be suitable.

This listing has ended, but you can click on view other items, etc...

Several on here have purchased from him.

I got that seal kit and its a very good deal, but the guy won't answer any questions.

FWIW I had 2 pumps apart this weekend, one had castings dated 1977 ( I assume 1.5 ) and one 1980 ( I assume 1.6).  The only difference I could SEE was the one corner of the front mount (triangle) was slightly different on the '77 , the governor had some see-though holes and the governor spring was slightly different.  I don't know about any internal (valving) differences but there might be some.  Actually, come to think of it , I had to use the cam plate from the '77 in the '80, and IIRC (now) the lift ( timing) spec is different.  Too bad I didn't think to compare them..  oh wellllll.......

One of the differences of a 1.5 to a 1.6 pump is the governor spring, the 1.5 has got a stiffer spring for a higher rpm limit
