Did all GTD's come with a 210mm clutch?
« on: July 19, 2010, 08:18:40 am »
Im about to order my new clutch for my Mk2 Golf GTD, however the engine code just doesnt seem to be visable anywhere, I can confirm it is a GTD with an intercooler and watercooled K14 Turbo, even the part number on the injector nozzles was that of a GTD.

There seems to be both 200mm and 210mm clutches available, Im pretty sure it will be the 210mm for the GTD and 200mm for the 1.6td, but thought I should best check with anyone who has a better knowledge base of this engine than myself.

Thank You

I think the engine code is behind the bypass hose at the top of the engine. I've never got an eyeball near it, so, look in the boot, on the floor near the threshold should be a white paper sticker, it will give the engine, gearbox and paint codes. Pukka GTD's have the RA engine early on, SB later. Sorry, I don't know when the changeover was. my GTD's are an "H" plate and a "J" plate, both SB's.

Yeah the paper sticker is long gone, wouldnt help anywho as its a 1985 golf that started out as a 1.3 petrol, but was converted to a GTD a couple of years ago.

Hmmmm really dont know which size, Im pretty sure it will be a 210mm as im 99% its a genuine GTD too many things point to it being a GTD over a 1.6td

If you're getting a new set up entirely there is no harm in going with a 210mm clutch/pressureplate/flywheel. the 020 transmission & starter will still house it. It's not bigger it's self just the machined area is larger.
