AAZ Rebuild Help Needed
« on: April 10, 2010, 09:50:41 pm »
Hi all,
I have been stalling my engine build because of how the machine shop had installed my IM shaft bearings. I need to get this engine built and running by the end of the month.

I think im just going to purchase new IM shaft bearings and find another shop to install them for me. Im not pleased with the last engine machine shop as they rather argue with me than own up to a bad bearing install.

I did some searches about the IM shaft bearing installs, and found out that the IM shaft should turn freely by hand with new bearings. I have to use a wrench to turn mine. and thats with nothing in the block but new IM shaft bearings and the IM shaft.

They are Clevelite bearings.

Can anyone suggest a pre sized IM shaft bearing set? Part number?
Anyone know of a shop in the Greater Toronto Area that can do the Install?

Thanks
Ed

The groove is supposed to shoot oil at the vac pump/int shaft gears so just point it that way.

'82 Rabbit, I put on a euro vnt-15, 2.25" DP, 2.5" exhaust, the result.....it whistled.

I removed the turbo, made a toilet bowl 2.5" DP, the result....it was deafening. Now it has a homemade muffler up front and a thrush in the rear, the result.....less loud.

Thanks rabbitman,
Its pointing in the right direction then. I ordered new clevite bearings part number SH1209s today (good thing the machine shop gave me all the boxes the parts came in lol). Just have to replace the outer one the machine shop installed wrong and scratched up the surface. The inner bearing is fine and installed correctly.

Thanks again
