Went out today to measure piston protrusion for the new HG,,, got really odd readings  #1(.77mm) #2(.89mm) #3(.89mm) #4(.02mm)

So low and behold that would explain the damn cylinder I was having probs with...  I would like to install a NEW set of 4 rods but is there any online retailer that sells em at a decent price?  This isnt a racer just a factory 92 Eco 1V engine.

Thanks,
Brad

P.S.  can someone explain the piston measurments I got? they seem high as i believe the 3 notch was 61mm?  and the car had a 2 notch installed.  I zero'd the gauge to the deck and then measure the highest point of protrusion?

just to add some redundancy (grabbed from brick's website)

1 notch - 1.53mm thick to suit piston protrusion of .66mm to .86mm
2 notch - 1.57mm thick to suit piston protrusion of .87mm to .92mm
3 notch - 1.61mm thick to suit piston protrusion of .93mm to 1.02mm

did you measure BOTH sides of the piston? IE: at 12 AND 6 oclock? Pistons do rock in the bore. I'd measure across the pin if possible-or better yet dead in the middle.

Thanks for those measurements,, thats exactly what i needed,, guess the 2 hole(notch) gasket was the right deal,,  but the #4 piston is definately bent and I'm thinking the #1 might have got a hit 2 judging by the numbers.

And yes I measured em all at dead center of the piston,,  just wish I new all this info about these engines the last time I rebuilt it 4 years ago..  starting to think that rod was bent the whole time as I always had a cylinder that didnt like to fire when cold.

Yup, that cylinder would have had low compression... particularly obvious when the engine is cold.

I'm starting to assume that nobody sells replacement rods besides getting some good used ones??

seen a guy on ebay have like 20 of em (good used) but says they are 139mm long,,,   either he messed up but I swear they are 136mm correct?

and this company says they are 136mm (looks chinese made parts) but they are $450 for a set.

I believe there was a guy on thesamba.com that was selling a pair of new 1.6 rods.  You might want to check it out.
