On the IDI NA pumps I've monkeyed with if you go too far it will idle too high and the idle stop screw will not bring it down, if you lower the smoke screw enough it becomes a dog for obvious reasons. Likewise the other way, it didn't seem to me one could get it off and not have it be pretty obvious, especially if you don't adjust the idle stop screw in the process of trying to figure out what you've done.

Tyler, you you are right again. One more tooth made it. My old engine is back, with more power and smoke. This will be adjusted to an acceptable smoke level. Thanks evrybody for the help.
