1982 caddy 1.6 n/a
i was driving fine havent had any problems with it at all, i parked it at my friends house and it was running fine when i turned it off... i went to start it and all i got was crank crank crank.... i checked the timing belt still on and tight.. then checked fuel.. theres no fuel in the line going from the filter to the IP and theres no fuel in the hard lines either, i tried loosening the injector fitting and cranking to get fuel to the injector but its not even pulling fuel to the pump.
what the hell is wrong did the pump just fail???
im new to diesel here so any ideas would be appreciated
also new things ive found out, if i pull the banjo fitting off the fuel filter and put it in a can of diesel it will pull fuel into the ip, but still wont push through to the injectors..
also there is a nice mess of fuel under the ip didnt notice it before but theres alot of fuel there...
are the seals gone on the pump and why would it just not start after parking it...
my baby..

Check that the stop solenoid on the pump clicks when you turn the key to run, if it's not working fuel will circulate through the pump but won't go to the injectors.
If it won't click (make sure it's getting 12V) then take it out and remove the little spring and plunger and put the body back in, you'll have to stall it to shut down.

'82 Rabbit, I put on a euro vnt-15, 2.25" DP, 2.5" exhaust, the result.....it whistled.
I removed the turbo, made a toilet bowl 2.5" DP, the result....it was deafening. Now it has a homemade muffler up front and a thrush in the rear, the result.....less loud.

alright... checked that and it wasn't clicking so i took the plunger and spring out and put it back in, now my question is to prime the air out of the hardlines that go to the injectors.. how long do i have to crank it for? i loosened the hardline going to one of the injectors and cranked for a about 40-50 seconds and still no fuel... (by the way i am working with a very dead battery and also about 10F degree weather)....( took the line off the fuel filter and put it in a can of diesel to make sure i could get it started first before i deal with maybe other issues like priming the rest of the system)

Pull start it. Just a little while and it will pull fuel up in it.
Did you get a new seliniod? Or was it the line going to the seliniod?

thanks for all the help guys i found out that the fuel cut off solenoid went bad and all my messing around with the fuel lines emptied the pump so i took the plunger out of the solenoid and then took the fuel return bolt off and filled the pump up with fuel, cranked it over and it spit and sputtered itself to life!
thanks again guys
