Head gasket / Inj pump Timing
« on: October 25, 2009, 01:21:49 pm »
new guy here that just bought a project.  I have been driving a 1985 TD jetta for 14 years and have never had to do a head gasket.  Project car is the same model and year but needs a head gasket and the injection pump installed and timed.

I have been reading for weeks and think I am ready to go but now the kids are sick and the project will have to wait a week or 2 more.

I am interested in suggestions and comments from you experienced folks.  Any thoughts / recommendations you have will be appriciated.  This will be a clean little runner when it is back together,  I don't want to mess it up!

thanks
Oz

Double check to make sure you have everything disconnected before lifting the head. The turbo oil drain is one I always forget.

If you leave the turbo and manifolds attached to the head make sure you have a helper to help install the bloody thing. It's heavy and awkward

thanks, good advice.

i was planning on installing the head with everything already assembled.  can it be done piece by piece?  seems like that might be kind of tight.
