Let me preface this by saying that I recently installed a boost gauge onto my kkk and discovered that my wastegate was probably stuck, giving me 15+ whenever the pedal is mashed down...having not really any time to do anything about it, I proceeded to take my car on a 1200km road trip to vancouver island, driving fast and in the upper rpm range...at around km 1150...
.I was at around 3k in 3rd going up a steep hill at probably around 20 psi when, of course, a loss of power and boost accompanied by a grey-black smoke cloud and a horrible scraping/screeching noise made me pretty sure that I'd toasted the bearing in the turbo...however, from the intake side there is no shaft play, and it spins fairly freely, but there does seem to be a oil mist accumulating around the cold side and there is a sort of new hiss coming from the engine all the time while accelerating...I've driven it a few hundred km's since but have not had the nerve to raise the boost very high..I'm pretty far from home, what are the chances this thing will make it back home for me..should I just startv looking for a junker turbo?
