Will anything smoke if you take a CE2 gasser cluster and plug it into a diesel CE2 harness?

I was impatient waiting for an answer plugged it in and no smoke!  The LCD clock lit up as well as the oil pressure and coolant LEDs. No glow plug light as expected. I'm gonna take it for a drive with a GPS and see if the speedo is off or not just curious. Then it tach time!.

I took it for a drive and the odo and speedo is almost dead on per the GPS, GPS says 10.6 miles, odo says 10.7 . The fuel gauge, which is now on the bottom of the tach, reads same as before. The temp gauge is reading slightly lower. I may swap over the old temp gauge. Looks like I just have to get the glow plug light working and wire up and calibrate the tach and that's all. I like the LCD clock better than the analog on the diesel cluster. The new speedo has what looks like a speed sensor on the back? It also has 80K less miles. Is the odometer easily moved forwards by taking it apart or should I run it up with an elec drill? .

You'll be at it all day if you are trying to cover 80k with a drill. I hooked mine up once and was shocked at how slowly the odometer moved.

The speed sensor is for cruise.

To be exact: If I can rig it up to run at 120 mph, to run it up 90,000 miles (what I need), it'd tale 31.25 days 24/7 lol.

Well luckily it is very easy to swap the speedo/odo assembly over from one cluster to another.

That's what I'll do when I swap over the coolant temp gauge and work on the glow plug light.

Do you fancy doing a write up with pics?  8)  I'd be interested in seeing how to swap the glow plug light over as I really really really want an odo. I've got the orange marks on the speedo to indicate change gears, but as I have a Golf3 g'box on my MK2 GTD I'm not sure if it's correct as it feels like it can go on for more when it reaches the orange line.

Did you use the 120, 140 or 160mph clocks?

I did a DIY for the speedo swapping. It's in the FAQ. All I can say is good luck with the gowplugs :)

Jay, I have the 120 mph speedo. I'd do a photo write-up but I only have a phone cam (digi- cam has a dead battery).

I went through the 6 pages of the FAQ in the English section and did not see a title that resembles speedo swapping. Did I look in the wron place or is it under some other title? And why "All I can say is good luck with the gowplugs :)" ? Is there something screwy there?
